Frequently Asked Questions

1 credit = 1 sent SMS text (a plain text message with or without emojis) delivered in 1 segment (block of text).

3 credits = 1 sent MMS message (a message with any media, like a video, image, or GIF)

Messages broken up into more than 1 segment cost 1 additional credit per segment.

Examples:

  • Send a 2 segment SMS message to 1 contact and it will cost 2 credits.
  • Send a 1 segment SMS message to a list of 10 contacts and it will cost 10 credits.
  • Send a 1 segment MMS message to 1 contact and it will cost 3 credits.
  • Send a 1 segment MMS message to a list of 10 contacts and it will cost 30 credits.

To determine your total estimated credits used for any sent message, follow this simple equation:

Total Contacts x Total Segments x Message Type (MMS or SMS) = Total Credits Used

When wireless carriers (like Verizon and ATT, for example) break up text messages into multiple segments they charge us to deliver those messages on your behalf.

We pass those costs on to you.

Segments are usually 160 characters for the GSM-7 format and 70 characters for the UCS-2 format. GSM-7 is the standard format, but UCS-2 is almost always used if your message contains emojis.

These formats and the estimated number of credits you will be using will be indicated before sending or scheduling any message.

Once you are subscribed, you will be able to pick from a list of available local numbers.

For those sending a high volume of messages (over 500 messages at a time), you may need to register for a toll-free phone number to prevent message throttling from telecom carriers. Contact us if you are concerned or want to register for a toll-free phone number.

It may be possible to use your existing landline or phone number to send and receive text messages with TextSpot. Contact us to see if your number is supported.

No. There are no hidden, additional fees, but there is a one-time A2P application registration fee of $19. This fee is paid to register your brand/organization and vet your use of sending text messages from an application to person(s) otherwise known as A2P.

You will be charged for additional credits used beyond your current plan.

For example, if you are subscribed to 100 credits per month and are about to send your 101st message within a 30-day period, then you'll be charged an additional $0.07 (7 cents) per message, which is collected at your next billing period.

Overages for credits range from $0.07 - $0.03 depending on the plan you are subscribed to.

In some cases, it is more affordable to simply go over a few credits rather than upgrading your account. In other cases, it may make more sense to upgrade. You can upgrade and downgrade your account at any time.

Yes. If you pay annually, you'll get 2 months free!

Yes. If you pay annually, you'll have access to all of your credits right away.

For example, if you pay annually for the 50 credits account, you'll be able to use all 600 credits (50 x 12 months) right away. You could send all 600 in one message if you'd like, or within 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, or whatever you choose.

If you go over that limit at any time, you'll need to upgrade or pay per additional credit.

Messages broken up into more than 1 segment cost 1 additional credit per segment.

SMS segments are the blocks of characters (letters, numbers, spaces, punctuation, etc) that an individual SMS message is broken into.

Segments are usually 160 characters for the GSM-7 format and 70 characters for the UCS-2 format. GSM-7 is the standard format, but UCS-2 is almost always used if your message contains emojis.

Messages over the character limit will be sent in multiple segments.

These rules are set by wireless carriers, not TextSpot.

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any point within your account.

An organization can have as many users as you want. This allows your team to access the same account so that anyone from your team can manage your contacts, schedule texts, etc.

A user is someone within your organization that can access your account and manage features of your account.

Contacts are the people and lists you send your messages to. There is no limit to the number of contacts you import or individually add to your account.

The character limit is 160 characters.

If your message goes over 160 characters, your message will be split and count as more than 1 credit.

For example, a 161-character message will be sent as two messages, one with 153 characters and the second with 8 characters.

No. Credits do not roll over for monthly or yearly subscriptions.

Yes. There is no limit to the number of text messages you can send on TextSpot. However, there is no fixed-price unlimited plan. Learn more about why fixed-price unlimited text messaging plans do not exist.

If you need more than 10,000 message credits per month, contact us for a custom plan.
